When hiking near
Hurricane Ridge
in the Olympic National Park may find that the deer are used to people nearby. It’s important to still give them their space since it’s their home you are visiting.
“elephant eyes” – When an elephant in captivity is well fed and cared for in a large complex with room to roam, does that translate into contentment?
Cape Meares Light – Lighthouses may share a definition, but very few are the same.
Ilwaco Marina
“Battle Worn” – This Dusky gander was guarding his family. From the look of his beak, it looks as if he’s had some confrontations.
“North Head Light” – Ever take a tour of a
lighthouse
on the Pacific Northwest coast? You may be amazed by the lenses that magnify a small bulb.
“Cedar Creek Mill” – We were sidetracked during visit to waterfalls along the Lewis River when we came across this historic and still working
grist mill
.

Early Arrival
“Humming for A Nest” – The size of a hummingbird’s nest has been compared to the size of a quarter. This collector among the cattails was gathering about $.75 worth of comfortable padding.
“Did this ruddy duck just wink at you?” -I’ve always marveled at the intense color of the ruddy duck’s beak during the mating season. This particular normally skittish water fowl must have been guarding territory as he stared me down.
“dreaming of youth” – If you are a member of the third or fourth generation of your family, you know how time has flown by. As the gentleman in this picture has told me many times, getting old isn’t for sissies.
